Using Choice to Overcome Business Challenges
Choice Makes a Big
Difference!
Choice is a key
ingredient in helping people adjust to new things and move
forward. Change is usually difficult for most people,
but when given choices, people feel better about the change.
Making a choice about some aspect of the change creates some
degree of ownership of the change.
Many times there are
places in the road to change where options can be built in.
The company, the group or the team can take one of several
alternatives and still be successful in the change.
Whenever these possibilities exist, if you get them involved
through choice, you’ll be pleased with the outcome.
My daughter has a five
year old son named William. As a two and three year old,
William was a happy and compliant child. He is really
cute (I am prejudiced I know) and people used to wonder if he
was real because he was so easy going! But then he
turned four and all the independence and obstinance came
forth. Lori was battling with him daily over what
clothes to wear.
A wise girlfriend
suggested she put out two outfits and give him a choice.
It worked beautifully! William would spot the two
outfits, say no to one and choose the other. Now he and
Lori are both happy.
It is amazing how choice softens the impact of change. At work or in your family, remember that choice makes a difference when you are leading change.
